How to use the html accessibility checker

Paste a page's HTML to check it against common accessibility rules: images need alt text, form fields need labels, links need descriptive text, and the page needs a language, a title and a main landmark. It also suggests a skip link and flags inline colours to check for contrast. Each issue explains what's wrong and how to fix it.

  1. Paste the page's HTML or upload an .html file.
  2. Read the list of issues, grouped by rule.
  3. Fix each issue in your code and check again.

Frequently asked questions

Which issues does it check?

Images without alt text, form fields without labels, links without descriptive text, a missing lang attribute on <html>, a missing page title, a missing main landmark and a missing skip link. Inline colours are flagged so you can check their contrast.

Does a clean result mean my page is fully accessible?

No. Automated checks catch common, clear-cut problems. Keyboard navigation, screen reader behaviour, colour contrast and content clarity still need manual testing.

Does it measure colour contrast?

No. It points out elements with inline colours so you can check them with a contrast checker; it doesn't calculate the contrast ratio.

Can I check a live URL?

Paste the page's HTML instead (View Page Source, then copy). Browsers don't let one website read another site's HTML directly.

Is my HTML uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you paste or upload is sent to our servers.
