How to use the json compare

Paste two JSON documents and get a list of every difference, each with its path, such as user.address.city or items[2].price. Values are compared deeply, through every nested object and array. You can ignore key order and compare strings without regard to letter case, then download a report of the differences.

  1. Paste the original JSON on the left and the new version on the right.
  2. Choose the options: ignore key order and case-sensitive comparison.
  3. The differences appear as soon as both sides contain valid JSON: added, removed and modified values, each with its path.

Frequently asked questions

How are differences shown?

Each difference is listed with its path and marked as added, removed or modified, with the old and new value.

Does key order matter?

Not for objects: keys are matched by name, so reordered keys aren't reported. Arrays are compared position by position, because their order is part of the data.

Can I ignore upper and lower case?

Yes. Turn off case-sensitive comparison to treat "Admin" and "admin" as equal.

Does whitespace or formatting matter?

No. Both documents are parsed first, so indentation and line breaks never count as differences.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser; nothing you paste or upload is sent to our servers.
